Rocket Engine

The liftoff and flight of massive spacecraft like sat-urn 5 or the space shuttle seem so unlikely as to be almost miraculous. But the apparent miracle of rocket flight results from a careful harnessing of natural forces. Like a jet, a space rocket pushed off from its own exhaust,in keeping with Newton's third law of motion.Since the rocket's exhaust at liftoff is directed towards the ground,launch pads are designed to divert potentially damaging blasts sideways.The original launch pads built Saturn 5 sat atop deep horizontal trenches made of thousands of fireproof bricks.

Of course, ones the rocket reaches outer space, it faces a challenge not placed on the jet engine: no oxygen. The rocket must carry its own supply. The airlessness of space, however,does have an advantage. spared the energy needed to push the air aside, the rocket requires less effort to thrust itself forward once it leaves Earth's atmosphere.
